1954 Chevrolet Corvette Corvair
Per request last week in another thread: [Clark] “The 54 Corvette Corvair. Mid-engine, cabin forward and chopped a little of course.”
Concept: What if Chevrolet decided to make a mid-engine sportscar in the style of the Porsche 356 and other European sportscars for 1954? Imagine this has a small 265 cu in (4.3 Liter) V8 engine within it and a transaxle setup intermixed with a Powerglide transmission. Stock Corvette wheelbase and the bodywork from the beltline down is mostly factory aside from the door opening. Rear fender is mildly re-arched and the dip moved forward to the new B-post location. The roof is an intermixture of GM show car and a Fleetline for improved aerodynamics. If someone did build this, imagine creating the roof as a liftoff hardtop! (and build a hard tonneau cover with raised headrest to hide the engine when the top is removed)
Details: And what if someone found the above stuffed away in a barn lost for several decades and turned it into a street rod. I think it would be fun to drive it into a NCRS Corvette event and witness all the faces of everyone trying to figure out “what the h*ll is that”…
