1989 Porsche 558GT Coupe

1989 Porsche 558GT Coupe

This is a concept idea from about eighteen months ago for a San Jose, California enthusiast. I did a series of imagineered illustrations for him as if the Porsche 356 was still being built in the 1970’s and 1980’s (and as if the 911 platform never existed). One of the offshoots ideas that I played with was taking the styling of a 1950’s era 550 spyder intermixed with wheelbase (and engine) as from a Porsche 908 (and a bit of modern Porsche Carrera GT proportions) but if say it was built in the late 1980’s as a homologation special for endurance racing competition. He loved it!

Porsche parts were being accumulated to construct it and CAD work was underway to properly engineer it and for bodywork molds — until I was contacted by his wife late one evening. The customer had severe issues breathing along with an extremely high temperature and a rush visit to the ER where doctors had him on a ventilator within an hour and doing all they could to help him. Nineteen hours passed and he was gone. One of the first people to die from the Covid-19 virus in California. That was a year ago today.
