1968 VW Type 2 pickup

Simple project idea that disappeared quickly. Ended up in trade with a VW Type 2 pickup that had seen better days from a customer. The VW had an Oldsmobile Tornado V8 engine with FWD automatic gearbox mounted in the back, badly rusted rockers & floors, damaged side gates and the nose was punched in. Just envisioned a quick rebuild of it for use as a shop pickup and thus the simple utilitarian restyle. I will admit I have never liked the projected nose on this version of the VW bus.

The day before it was to be transported to Arizona, I received a phonecall from someone who saw it at a friends place. He recognized it while driving by on the freeway. He stopped and inquired about it. He wanted to “restore it” back to its dragstrip glory from 35 years prior. Once he showed pictures of it on his iPhone proving it was his fathers from decades ago — that clinched the deal. He got a good deal on it but undoubtedly has a lot of work in the years ahead.

Sadly I’d still like one of these “Bay Window” pickups for a shop truck today though…
